littleBits Takes the Maker Movement Mainstream with New Ad Campaign
By Allison VanNest, Head of Communications at littleBits
littleBits is one of the founding companies of the maker movement, so it is important to us to lean in to creative, DIY projects as often as we can. Maybe that’s why we’re so excited to debut three new ads today around the STEAM inventor kits we launched back in September. Our mission? To empower changemakers everywhere, regardless of gender, race, nationality, and ability, to solve the epic challenges ahead.
There are three interesting to note about the ads:
We hired makers to make them! Take a look at some of the photos below, which depict some of the work that went into creating these ads. Kudos to the makers and craftspeople who made it happen!
We used interviews with real kids to capture viewers’ imagination. Kids come up with the most amazing ideas, and we listened to kids’ ideas about how they would use our new STEAM inventor kits to change the world — and we made imagination reality. It’s really awesome to watch.
We designed the ads to be gender neutral. As with all of our products, littleBits designed these ads with gender inclusivity in mind. We wanted to make sure that kids could see themselves in the ads — from their appearance to the ideas presented.
Check out the ads below and let us know which is your favorite!

Changemakers are people who solve problems in unexpected ways. The mindset starts in childhood; in order to encourage kids to invent the world they want to live in, we have to start early and often. With littleBits’ new STEAM inventor Kits, kids have the tools they need to make the world a better place.
