At littleBits, we believe that every kid is an inventor. So today, we have announced the launch of the Droid Inventor Kit, which enables kids to create their own innovative Droids. Your kids can now create their own trusty sidekick!
The Droid Inventor Kit encourages kids to explore technology and to think of themselves as inventors: to accept challenges, make mistakes, persevere, and feel the triumph and pride of creating something with your own two hands.
So what exactly do kids need to become a Droid Inventor?
Inventor tool #1: The littleBits Droid Inventor Kit
The Droid Inventor Kit inspires kids to create their own Droid and bring it to life using littleBits electronic blocks. They’ll give their Droid new abilities and take it on 16+ missions, then they’ll level-up their inventor skills, rearranging parts to design new Droids. The kit comes with everything kids need to create and control their own Droids – all parents need to provide is a smart device.
The Droid Inventor Kit includes:
6 electronic blocks (called Bits) and a 9 volt battery.
20 Droid parts to create the Droid and reconfigure for new functionality.
3 sticker sheets for customization.
Inventor tool #2: The free littleBits Droid Inventor app
The app takes kids through inventor training to bring their Droid to life, and provides helpful tips and tricks at every turn.
Here’s what kids will get in the free inventor training app for iOS & Android:
Full instructions and video tutorials showing how to create the Droid.
Controls to guide their Droid in Drive Mode, Force Mode, Self Navigation Mode, and more.
Buttons to make 20 authentic Droid sounds from the Star Wars films (and the sound comes out of the Droid itself!).
16+ missions (and counting!) to help Droid Inventors train and play with their Droid.
Ideas for Droid customization and instructions on how to reconfigure it for new functionality.
Inventor tool #3: Craft materials & household items
What do toilet paper tubes and milk cartons have to do with being a Droid Inventor? As Rey will tell you, being an inventive scavenger always comes in handy. The Droid Inventor Kit encourages kids to get creative with technology, both by reconfiguring their Droid to give it new powers, and by decorating and customizing it so it becomes a loyal sidekick that reflects their unique personality.
A selection of missions kids will go on that call for household items:
Mission 06: The obstacle course. Kids use books, cereal boxes, paper cups, and anything they can find to create barriers their Droid must race around.
Mission 08: Draw Mode. Sheets of paper and a washable marker can be added to the mix, and kids can write messages or draw pictures using their Droid.
Mission 15: Custom head. A household item like a plastic cup can totally change the game.
