If you didn’t know already, Halloween around littleBits is kind of a big deal.
Aside from the spooky-scary stuff, we love Halloween because it’s one of those holidays where you can let your creativity take center stage. From Halloween costumes to decorations, you can go nuts with arts and crafts! And don’t worry; there is still plenty of time to create the STEAM-powered Halloween costume of your dreams before the big night.
In fact, here are a few ideas to get you thinking outside of the box.
Get On Board With Cardboard
By itself, cardboard may seem a little boring; but, cardboard is a universal crafting material. You can do just about anything with it. You can make armor for a knight, or a sweet prop like a sword or a jetpack. It can be easily cut, colored, or molded into whatever shape you need to make your ideas real. Using cardboard will really put your creative muscles to work. Also, cheap!
In an ideal world, every kid would grow up to be a Changemaker. While we may not be there yet, it’s fun to pretend! A mad scientist is a fun and easy Halloween costume with big potential to customize. You can start with a lab coat and then get really creative.
Slime is making a huge comeback with kids, and could be the finishing touch you’re looking for on your Halloween costume. Making your own slime is a great way to teach kids about chemistry and mixing ingredients, and the payoff is a gooey mess that they can feel proud of.
Ghost of A Scientist
While the world is full of very smart people, so many important scientists are long gone. Why not show them a tribute by dressing your kid up like one?
Scientists and inventors from yesteryear are great role models, so give kids the opportunity to drop some knowledge on their peers, and most of all, look straight-up adorable. Think about your kid with a wild Albert Einstein wig or a fancy dress like Ada Lovelace. Give lil’ Nikola Tesla some cardboard lightning bolts or Marie Curie some LED radiation powers.
LE(a)D the Way
The most memorable Halloween costumes have that one extra “thing” that makes them special. Like a super accurate prop or a wild makeup job, every Halloween costume should have something that stands out. For the STEM-minded Halloweener, LED lights can be that little thing.
By incorporating LED lights into your costume, it makes you instantly noticeable. You can be anything: the universe with shining stars, a robot/android, or even something that only exists in your child’s mind. The littleBits LEDs are battery powered, so you strap ‘em on and go for a long night of trick-or-treating.
