Today, we’re pleased to announce updates to our Pro Library, a giant collection of Bits and accessories meant to fuel young inventors’ imaginations as they gain science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills. The Pro Library will now include new and improved Bits such as the codeBit, new and improved speaker Bit, and LED matrix, as well as enhanced accessories like new wheels and mounting boards.
The Pro Library helps students build thousands of inventions at libraries, makerspaces, and schools — from huge installations to intricate inventions. Ideally suited for collaborative, project-based learning in groups of up to 32 kids, the Pro Library is currently in use at more than 10,000 locations globally. Updates to the collection will make it easier than ever for librarians, media specialists, and teachers to incorporate STEAM into unstructured learning programs.
“The Pro Library increases student participation and engagement,” said Jorge Valenzuela, lead educational coach for Lifelong Learning Defined, Inc. “It integrates seamlessly with the other tools we use to teach both computer science education and STEAM, and it is accessible to kids of all knowledge levels. By adding new Bits and accessories, littleBits is demonstrating its commitment to expanding kids’ invention potential.”
To make implementation easy, the Pro Library now comes with an online resource page for educators that includes implementation guides, invention booklets, case studies showcasing best practices, posters, and more. To help students immediately start inventing, littleBits has also included a comprehensive Bit Index, including sample circuits and real world analogies for each Bit in the updated Pro Library package.
“By the eighth grade, girls’ interest in STEAM drops significantly, making it important to expose them to science, technology, engineering, art, and math early and often,” said Dr. Azi Jamalian, head of education strategy at littleBits. “To do this, we’ve collaborated with libraries, makerspaces, and schools to create spaces – and a product – that kids want to use. Continued refinements to our Pro Library offering ensure that kids have the tools they need to build, create, and imagine.”
