Announcing the Lead Droid Inventor Program

By Adam Skobodzinski

Do you love Star Wars? Are you a top-notch tinkerer and inventor extraordinaire? Does the prospect of inspiring new inventors to create the next generation of Droids excite you? We are looking for 10-20 inventors from across the US to become littleBits Lead Droid Inventors and participate in a program from November 10 - January 19.

What is a Lead Droid Inventor?
Your mission as a Lead Droid Inventor is to use your powers as an inventor, tinkerer, librarian, community leader, teacher, parent, or all-around superhero to inspire people across the country (and around the world!) to create their own inventions. And there are some pretty cool perks that come with it. We'll get to that soon ;)

What is the Lead Droid Inventor Program?
The Lead Droid Inventor program empowers kids (and kids at heart) to see themselves as inventors, and to get creative with technology using the Droid Inventor Kit. In the program, littleBits will support Lead Droid Inventors as they create inventions that inspire and empower others. We will help elevate our Lead Droid Inventors as leaders in the invention community, and will feature your inventions all over littleBits.

What do I get for participating?
Each participant or group of participants will receive:

  • 7 FREE littleBits Droid Inventor Kits
  • VIP early access to new Droid Inventor initiatives
  • Access to digital training with littleBits coaches & experts
  • A chance to showcase and share your work with a global audience

What am I expected to do?
We anticipate each Lead Droid Inventor will spend roughly 3-7 hours per week working on program projects, depending on the week. Over the course of the 10-week program, every participant must:

  • Attend a one-hour kickoff session via Google Hangouts.
  • Play with the Droid Inventor Kit!
  • Complete two Lead Droid Inventor projects. These could include:
    • Custom Droids
    • Lessons or activities
    • Video tutorials
  • Lead or support 3-5 local events. We may ask you to join an event already planned or to run an event for your community. We will work with you on this depending on your skills.
  • Attend four 30-minute training sessions with our product design and event experts
  • Actively participate in the cohort’s digital platform by giving feedback, documenting your projects, and supporting your fellow Droid Inventors.

Who should apply?
Kids, families, educators, makerspace leaders, Star Wars enthusiasts, and littleBits inventors who are based in the USA. You must be able to participate and contribute between mid November and mid January.

We are looking for a diverse group of Droid inventors who…

  • Love inventing things with their hands, documenting their process, and sharing their work;
  • Enjoy teaching and sharing knowledge;
  • Are ready to have a positive impact on their local inventor community with littleBits by attending events, running workshops, or speaking at conferences;
    Are based in the USA; and
  • Love all things Star Wars
