Meet the Inventor

Astghik Tonoyan

Astghik was first introduced to the littleBits world by her sister, Anahit.  Not one to let big sis have all the fun, Astghik is already a successful inventor, repeatedly submitting inventions to challenges.  She was even a Grand Prize Winner of our Magic of Invention challenge with her amazing “Ron’s Howler.”  Once opened, the animatronic invention reenacts the moment Ron Weasley got a “Howler” from his mum.  Says Astghik, “I chose to make a howler because I laugh every time I remember Ron’s face after he opens the message!!!  I made the howler with origami and I put a string to open and close the mouth. I also put a light sensor, so when you put the box back on the howler, it stops screaming. I put an mp3 player to scream the message :)”  Let’s see it in action:
Where are you based?
I am based in San Jose, California.
How would you describe yourself in six words or less?
Creative, smart, curious, active and kind.
What was your littleBits “a-ha!” moment? The moment when you were bitten by the littlBits bug.
When I saw all of the awesome inventions on the littleBits website, it made me want to join.
When starting a littleBits project, what does your design and video process look like?
It is a fun process, but sometimes it may not work and we may need to redo it. Especially the videos.
How has littleBits impacted you creatively?
Different monthly challenges by littleBits make me think more and help me become more creative to win.
What do you plan on inventing next?
I am still thinking what to make for my next project.
