Meet the Inventor

Gavin Thomas Walters

gavin spinroller small

Gavin first started using littleBits at workshops after school.  He’s built a model of the Empire State Building lit up with colorful RGB LEDs, art bots that draw automatically, and this Spin Roller he controls with a smart phone and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Bits from the Gizmos & Gadgets Kit, 2nd Edition.

Let’s get to know Gavin better.

Where are you based?
I’m based in Westchester County, New York.

How would you describe yourself in six words or less?
I would describe myself as generous, altruistic, smart, enthusiastic, helpful and as a hard worker.

What was your littleBits “a-ha!” moment? The moment you were bitten by the littleBits bug.
My aha moment was when I finally finished building the cardboard chassis of the Dudley Family Car.

When starting a littleBits project, what does your design and video process look like?
My design and video process starts out with me brainstorming some ideas and then choosing one. Then I start to build the circuit. Then once I’m done mounting the circuit, my mom tapes me playing with my invention.

How has littleBits impacted you creatively?
Now I know that things may start little but get bigger and bigger creatively, meaning I started small by taking card stock and using tape to inventing a whole chassis.

What do you plan on inventing next?
I plan on inventing a moving lamp using littleBits.
