littleBits turns 4 and Bitsters rejoice with surprise sacred vows and rap serenade
This September 1st marked littleBits’ four-year anniversary (aka Bitiversary) as a company, and you better believe things got E-P-I-C at our weekly team pow-wow.
For the occasion, Patrick Molloy, Customer Success Lead and Universal Life Reverend, surprised littleBits founder & CEO, Ayah Bdeir, and Director of Research & Development and founding member, Paul Rothman, by summoning them to renew their vows to democratize hardware for everyone. Jordi Borrás, Industrial Design Lead and founding member, stepped in as flower boy, pinning Ayah and Paul with purple corsages. “Do you promise to love and cherish littleBits for the rest of your lives?” prompted Patrick. As Ayah and Paul recited their “I do’s,” crowds of Bitsters decked in crepe paper bowties and purple mardi gras beads cheered. Product Marketing Lead and office poet laureate, Hirumi Nanayakkara commemorated the day (along with Paul’s announcement of his own engagement, Casey Koppelson’s recent wedding, and Stephen Young’s one-year Bitiversary) with a double haiku:
Casey is getting frisky
And so too shall Paul
Rejoice, all. Seats taken
Stephen Young is one
1500 days of purple.
Cheers, Ayah Paul!
After Ayah’s rallying reminder of our core mission and beliefs, Bitsters launched a second surprise attack, this time, a free-style serenade. Shem Rajoon, Senior UX/UI Designer, Josh Levine, Director of Software and Web Engineering, and Colin Vernon, Director of Cloud & Platform, led the crowds in a rap they wrote to mark the historic celebration. “Epic Rise” tells a story of grit, humility, and unabashed appetite for awesomeness.
They were accompanied by back-up dancer and Full-Stack Engineer, Tom Freudenheim, and glitter hype-girl and Customer Service Rep., Grace Morales (aka Grace-Money). The meeting concluded with cupcakes, high-fives, and calls for a bajillion more years of Bits.
