A Q&A with Our Office Manager

Screen Shot 2013-07-31 at 11.58.04 AMHow long have you worked at littleBits?

I’ve been the Office Manager at littleBits for six months.

What led you to the position?

My last few jobs were in the music industry and I was looking for a change of scenery. A colleague introduced me to a recruiter who told me about littleBits. I hadn’t heard of littleBits but everything about the company was immediately exciting to me and I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the team; who by the way, are the most amazing people ever.

Describe a typical work day.

It’s strange to think of any day at littleBits as typical because each day presents a different set of interesting challenges. My responsibilities include office management, IT coordination, recruiting management, HR administration, bookkeeping, and in general, making sure the team has everything they need to do their jobs. We take a great deal of pride in our beautiful Greenwich Village office and I strive to maintain a creative, positive and fun work environment.

When you’re not at work, what are you doing?

I have a 12 foot jon boat, which is a modest but effective vessel, and I like to go bass fishing on the weekends. Here’s a picture of a monster I caught and released completely unharmed this spring. I was having a weird Glenn Danzig hair day, but who knows, maybe fish dig Danzig.

What Bit do you identify with?

I identify most with the Branch. The Branch expands possibilities by allowing multiple functions to operate simultaneously. The branch isn’t as flashy as some of its counterparts, but it is critical for expansion and it plays a very important support role.

What’s your favorite thing about New York City?

Is everything an acceptable answer? It’s impossible to be bored here. We have some great record stores. Brooklyn is a really fun place to live. I’m fascinated by the history of New York. I recently read a book about the Roeblings and the Brooklyn Bridge and am currently reading a book about New York City history from the 1600s to present day.

Aside from littleBits, what else are you working on?Screen Shot 2013-07-31 at 11.51.50 AM

I’m a musician and recording engineer, and I’m currently writing a record and putting a heavy band together with some friends. I’m also a novice guitar tinkerer and when I’m not rocking I like to work on my guitars. Last weekend I installed some pickups, which are transducers that capture vibrations and convert them to electrical signals. This is a picture of my guitar with my new pickups (thanks to our Senior Electronics Engineer, Geof Lipman for his helpful advice).

Any advice for people interested in creating with Bits?

Create with friends! I made a project with my brother this week and it was a lot of fun.
