#HackYourHabits Pro Tips

Need some help getting started on submitting habit tracker or behavior changer for the #HackYourHabits Challenge? We've come up with a few handy tips for documenting your invention and sharing it with the world:

  • Give your project a catchy or descriptive title. This will help others find your invention and let it stand out above the rest!
  • Show us more than your circuits. Try integrating craft materials or creating an enclosure for your project. This is your chance to get creative and quirky :)
  • But show us the full circuit too. There’s a good chance other people will want to make your project or remix it, so be sure to show the full circuit before box it up. Get that beauty shot.
  • Make sure your description is clear. What does it do? Why did you invent it? What problem does it solve? Who is it for? How does it work? Keep it short and sweet.
  • Create a video to tell the story of your invention. A picture is worth a thousand words, but video is worth a million. Help us see your vision in action. Grab a few friends and film a video that shows use how or why someone would use it in their lives.
  • Music is a great tool to help tell your story. Add beats to your video to make it interesting for your viewers or to convey an emotional quality to your invention.

Some reminders and tips for when you start filming:

  • If you have a camera, use it. Try to avoid a smartphone if possible.
  • If you are using a phone to capture your invention, be sure to orient it horizontally in landscape format.
  • Make sure we can hear you or your sounds loud and clear by keeping the camera close to the audio.
  • Hold the camera still and be sure to focus on the object or scene you’re highlighting. Try not to move around too much, otherwise you might make your audience seasick. :0 Better yet, rest it on a flat surface or use a tripod.
  • Taking shots from different angles and edit them together using iMovie for Mac, Movie Maker for PC, or other editing software.
We bet you have some good ideas too - leave them in the comments below!
